So I'm a DZ and actually most of us are pretty attractive (believe it or not). This is absolutely absurd. There are tell-tale signs of being greek on campus (frat tanks, croakies, anoraks, and Sperrys) that students look for to identify you as either greek or GDI (God Damn Independent.) what kind of people you want to have as mentors and long-life friends, partly by reputation, but mostly by YOUR OWN GUT FEELINGS! from what I know of them. I'm a Chi Omega from Ole Miss. I was blessed for 2 years to travel around the country and spend time with sorority girls in 30 states and numerous chapters. Sorority girls are empowered woman driven to make a difference, donate time and better themselves. I wouldn't really put a label on the entire school because each person is so different than just one thing that they are involved with. :) You have the "snobby" Gators. At my school the top three sororities are Delta Zeta, Tri Sigma, and Alpha Sigma Alpha. Particularly on a very large campus, undergraduates can benefit from the friendship and support a sorority offers. There are a lot of Geeks on campus- Our school is home to a lot of intelligent individuals
Overall, they are nice girls. To ALL of the sororitys we are great people and DONT let a random website tell u what u are not!! This is why sorority stereotypes exist. Some consider them to be the quintessential sorority, in both a good and a bad way. KD is nothing except in the South, same with Zeta, which folded.
There is also a fairly large Greek community here on campus as well. You clearly are very close-minded and ignorant. There's a million nerds, a million people in the Greek life, and If you look hard enough, there's a perfect niech for everyone. A "top" tier sorority can basically pick just who they want among pledges, while a "low" tier sorority takes the left-overs. Stereotypes are never accurate.
Yes, we might call the other teams names. Time to get with the times and realize that the top houses are no longer in the south and east and beauty and wealth are not considered as much as grades, sports and philanthropy. The most well known stereotype about UF that I constantly hear about has to be that it is completely made up of Greek Life. NO ONE has the right to try to determine which is "better" than the other. What should matter is that you choose the sorority that you best fit into and makes YOU happy. Fortunately, you correctly pointed out these are generalization because from campus to campus there are important differences and from region to region.
Sure there are "frat guys" and "jocks" but they don't always fit the stereotype for that. They are everywhere!! They are not considered nice—but not outright nasty either.
Shame on you. They tend to be the prettier and wealthier girls. "Classy" and "involved" are not words typically used to describe Alpha Phi girls, but "fun" and “popular" are. I would venture to say your fraternity life was short and you are disparately trying to relive your college life. and that is on top of the general time commitment involved with joining/maintaining active status so if you're planning on joining make sure you're staying on top of managing your time and not getting behind in class.

Alpha Omicron Pi - mid tier (strong sisterhood; unique; not academically ambitious; fun; small town girls; down to earth) - Being a sorority with the most chapters around the United States and Canada than any other sorority, their reputations can vary. Fraternity members consider DZ girls a lot of fun. It's so weird to see girls get so upset over getting dropped by the good sororities and having to go to the lowest tier parties. My friend got asked how much her dress cost when she was pledging. And as for the parents and others commenting on this and taking it seriously, don't.

Honestly, the students here are just plain interesting. They actually drop out of recruitment than pledge a bottom tier sorority, like kappa Kappa Gamma or DZ. I think the main stereotype of students at my school is that all of them are partiers. Block it out, and go with an open mind. Students that go to UF are typically stereotyped as a variety of things, including frat kids, snobby sorority girls, and of course, the obnoxious gator fans. However, this stereotype is not accurate. And wait!...can't forget the huge athletes who are always decked out in the nicest Gator gear. Find something you're interested in, but most importantly, just get a feel for where you belong.
